Margaret Atwood.

For children’s books, I think J.K. Rowling is hard to beat, but I also love the work of R.J. Palacio and Katherine Applegate.

2. Who are your heroes in real life?

There are many heroes that come to mind. I’ve always been drawn to people who talk about the experiences of women: Gloria Steinem, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Glennon Doyle, Michelle Obama and of course, my mama.

3. Who or what motivated you to become an educator?

I always enjoyed school. I had a phenomenal Women’s Studies teacher during my freshman year of college and a great high school history teacher.

4. Your idea of happiness…

Being in a state of peace. For me this means spending time in the mountains, in the winter, with a cup of coffee and a fire going.

5. In a nutshell, what is your definition of leadership?

Being a leader means you are guiding others to succeed. Leaders lead by example and are always looking out for everyone on their team.
